Name Game

So many people have asked us "What will you call her?" .... and our answer is this .... in the beginning, we will call her "Tsion". That is the beautiful name her birth mother has given her, and it is the name she has learned to answer to for the past 13 months. Eventually we'll call her "Ellie Tsion" to help familiarize her with it. And, then, our plan is to call her Ellie. We don't know how long that will take or if we'll even stick to that plan.

We wanted to give our daughter both a name that keeps the ties to her Ethiopian culture and a name that will bond her with her new American culture. And, we wanted her to have options so that one day, if she so chooses, she can pick what name she wants to go by. Until then, we'll just have to wait and see!

That's exactly what we did...and now that we're exclusively "Ella" we forgot that we used to call her "Yanet" until we watched one of the videos we shot in Ethiopia.

For what it's worth, I think both names are absolutely beautiful and fit her perfectly. Either one with suit her! :)

I love Ellie, but think Tsion is so unique and sophisticated. How fun!!! You'll get to decide as you get to know her better.

As you know that's what we did with Sammy. He has LOTS of name options. Samuel Scott Min-Lee Moore! :) We wanted to give him an American name to help us bond with him, but wanted him to have his Korean name as well so he can remain bonded with his birth land. So you get a thumbs up from me on your name choice! Not that you needed it or anything. ;)
